IOS 16 introduced the ability to insert an emoji when dictating a text or sending a message. If you’ve used any sort of voice recognition software before, many of these commands will be familiar. Open Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control.This opens up many more ways to communicate with your iPhone verbally, one of them being the ability to delete text while dictating. However, from iOS 13 upwards, an accessibility feature called Voice Control can be enabled. Then tap on the cursor, and move it around the screen to your desired location. Press and hold the space bar and the keyboard will be disabled. You can also make the cursor behave more like a computer trackpad. This works really well in practice and makes editing text as you dictate a doddle. (In iOS 15 and below, you will still have to tap the microphone icon when you want to continue dictating). Just start speaking again to continue with dictation, there’s no need to press the microphone button again. If you’re already dictating, simply tap on the screen next to the text to start typing instead. IOS 16 introduced the ability to switch between talking and typing seamlessly. Note, with the iOS 16 auto punctuation feature enabled, you may not have to say ‘comma’. If you’re not a Siri person, you can start the process by tapping the Let’s drive shortcut from the Shortcuts widget.Tap on the microphone icon to start dictating How to speak when dictatingĪs you talk, the words you say appear on the screen. When you get in your car, all you need to do is say “Let’s drive” to Siri to activate that shortcut. Let’s say you’ve created a shortcut that plays your favorite playlist and puts your iPhone in Do Not Disturb. Shortcuts can trigger in four different ways: within the Shortcuts app itself, from the Shortcuts widget, from the Share Sheet, or by using a custom Siri phrase. Shortcuts is Apple’s automation app that lets you make a shortcut on your iPhone and set up complex workflows (actions that happen automatically, one after the other, once the shortcut triggers). Start by recording these tasks and seeing if you can automate them with Shortcuts. This lets you spend less time on your iPhone and more time doing other things. Almost anything that you do multiple times a day, and which takes more than a few taps, can be a cool automation for your iPhone. ![]()
