![]() ![]() I like to put the highest CA and reserve capacity battery in vehicles I can find. ![]() 40 month Full free replacement! CA 840, CCA 700, Reserve 110. I chose a Exide NASCAR Extreme 40rx tight but perfect fit. I made all the rounds of auto stores and battery places. I did not find a battery I wanted at any of the Costco's near me in Washington. The Exide Premium 41 lasted just over 10 years and probably only died from lack of use for a couple years. This spring I needed a new starting battery in my 91 Westfalia (passenger seat). The thicker plates were necessary to handle the horrible road conditions of the spring thaw while still being able to offer a warranty. If I lived in a region that had below zero temperatures I would want a larger CCA rating, which decreases with temperature. I know that batteries manufactured for the Canadian market were more robust at one time, thicker plates, thicker cases with more cold starting capacity. ![]() ![]() It is the battery compartment at the rear of the front passenger pedestal. Greebly, not recognizing what part of van that is ( or the battery is tiny!)? I live in Colorado. It will still jumpstart the carĭoe s it get really cold where you live or where you will be operating? The type 40R will fit the compartment and is almost identical to the type 41 original. I'm still on my factory aux battery on the EV. If you got fifteen years out of the old battery you should be telling us what to do. Time and labor are also factors and sometimes more money is well spent. For economic value i divide the cost by the warranty period. I buy the largest capacity battery that will fit. However the 500 cca should start you fine, longer term it may not last as long, and will die sooner if car is stored with accesories like radio memory or clocks running, dome light left on, etc. I rather spend more if it assures me that i at least meet the specified battery capacity, one time with a dead battery can cost more than the $73 savings. Per the vw manual, you must replace with specified battery, battery specification in on the battery housing. May not last as long as it has less reserve when it starts to degrade (ie it will only have 250 cca when half capacity verses 350 cca) loads when alternator is not running will drop it a greater percentage of capacity for given load and time, the greater percent a battery is discharged, the lower its life can be. Thanks Jimmy 1989 Westy Obviously the lure in this is that Costco price ( $72.99 ) is half of the retail price for the 700 CCA. The terminals are in the correct orientation. 700 on my old batt.)Ģ) 1.5" "shorter" lengthwise vs. Looking to replace 15 year old ( under passenger seat ) Interstate battery with a newly available Interstate selling at Costco.
